Feel Good Friday

Today I felt a tad bit low. And after browsing we ol' Facebook for a bit I saw a friend that I went to high school with, and even though we reconnected on fb we haven't talked. I sent him a message and it seems that he had been struggling a bit with an addiction of some sort. This may be a bit selfish, but sometimes reaching out to someone else and just saying hi could not only boost your spirit a little, but theirs as well.

As funny as that is we all, as a society need to open up our hearts just a bit and except people for their differences, you may not like the music that Justin Bieber makes (which is a guilty pleasure of mine), but he should be shown nothing but respect.

"To be one, to be united is a great thing. But to respect the right to be different is maybe even greater." ~ unknown

Sometime this weekend have a cocktail before 5pm. Laugh. Spend sometime with the sun on your face. Find someone you would usually never talk to and make a new friend.

Autumn's finest

Here we are folks! The middle of October. Autumn at it's finest. Which consist of four things, the first three are:
Friends
Football
Food

But I am adding a fourth F to this tri-fecta  of awesome we call October.

Fitness! Yes that's right. Now how do we as a society combine all four of these items and keep our winter weight down to just a few pesky pounds instead of and entire stone? (Stone = 14lbs by the way)

We are going to reach way back and channel the great Greek Ancient Philosopher Epicurus. We all know he was into the 'pursuit of pleasure' and having a group of friends you can trust is most evident in having a peaceful, happy life. Simply do what makes you laugh, smile, feel good. He also taught and warned against overindulgence. Too much of a good thing, alcohol for example, can cause pain. Ergo drink till you hearts delight, but know when to stop.

"Not what we have But what we enjoy, constitutes our abundance." ~ Epicurus

That is what is so great about this time of year. We gather along with the people we love, in a parking lot outside of a friends car, around a table of food in dear one's house, or at a bar celebrating victories or suffering loses with complete strangers. Weather we realize it or not our souls get healed in these interactions, and our bodies lose stress with the cocktails we drink. Bodies lose stress with cocktails? What about a good hearty work out?

By good hearty workout for most of you that means reaching your arm out of the covers hitting the snooze button a good three or four times until it is too late for you to go to whatever workout you had planned. With all of this eating, drinking, and hanging out not to mention our everyday lives that we have going on, there is no way we can make time for fitness. Also Epicurus would be against this right? Working out can cause pain, that is a no no in his eyes. How do we get everything we want? Friends, good time, food, drinks, and be healthy. Is this even possible?

Here is a secret:  the key to health/fitness is our minds. Our minds hold us back from so much, it's what tells us we can sleep just another ten more minutes more, cause it's just a workout right? This year let's nip it in the bud. Baby steps. Now I am probably going to mention a word that most people dread... wait for it... yoga.

Yes that thing that people say is boring and it is just stretching, can be the best thing for your body, and mind. You can get an amazing workout without the heavy cardio. (remember we are taking baby steps here) It does not matter your weight or size. You can stand to lose 50lbs or 10lbs. Yoga is the perfect, takes an hour, twice a week, and you can do it during your "me time." You are getting that right? If not start. Of course there are so many different types of yoga that you can take and below I will be posting different links that you can visit. I promise there are plenty of place that you can walk into and you will feel at home. Drop-in classes are usually $15-$17 and the mats are complementary so you can see if you like it.

If you are in a rut, and you want to fix it. You want pleasure in your life, you want to be fit, but you just really don't want to work out. Give yoga a try. By the spring you will  not only be limber, but wondering were the abs came from, and ready to conquer just a little bit more.

I encourage you to take time this Autumn. Smile, live enjoy your friends, football, food, and get your fitness on. When New Year's rolls around you will feel so much better about not having to put work-out on your resolutions list!
